DAT score conversion FAQ

How do I convert an old DAT score (1–30) to the new 200–600 scale?

Use the ADA's DAT Concordance Table (Table 1 in the ADA guide "Understanding the New DAT Score Reporting Scale"). Find your old score in the left column and read across to the section you want. For example, an old Quantitative Reasoning score of 15 is approximately equivalent to 340 on the new scale.

When did the DAT switch to the 200–600 scale?

The new 3-digit scale started on March 1, 2025. Scores range from 200 to 600 in 10-point steps. Since then all DAT scores, including results from earlier tests, are reported to ADEA AADSAS on the new scale; older results are converted psychometrically.

What is a 20 Academic Average on the new DAT scale?

According to ADA Table 1, an old Academic Average of 20 is approximately equivalent to 420 on the new scale. An old AA of 18 corresponds to about 390.

Is the conversion exact?

No. The ADA calls these approximate equivalents. The table was built from more than 30,000 DAT attempts over a recent two-year period, each scored on both scales; an old and a new score were matched when they held similar positions in their score distributions.

Can I convert a new 200–600 score back to the old scale?

The ADA publishes the table in the old-to-new direction only. Reading it in reverse gives a rough old-scale equivalent, which is what this converter's New → Old mode does. Treat that result as an estimate, not an official conversion.

Where can I find percentiles for the new DAT scores?

The same ADA guide includes Table 2, which lists percentile ranks for each 3-digit score by section, based on a national sample of more than 30,000 attempts.
